Cold Weather Shelter Updates
By Natalie Shaw, Director of Compliance
Beginning on December 23, 2019, the annual Emergency Rotating Shelter went into effect across Harford County. This shelter is made up of a rotation of church locations where volunteers and paid security work together to create a safe temporary nighttime residence for those without shelter.
During the winter months, the need for safe, warm shelter is critical, and this shelter allows Harford County to accommodate more than just the number of beds available year-round at the Welcome One shelter. Additionally, this is the time of year when Harford County Government activates its Freezing Weather Plan.
When the temperatures drop below freezing for an extended period of time, individuals and families can seek emergency shelter through intake at HCAA until the worst of the weather passes.
If you know someone who is unsheltered and needs help this season, please send them to HCAA to be screened and placed into safety.
