Five Million Pounds of Food Saved with Farm to Food Bank Program

Although farmers across the commonwealth saw discouraging weather conditions throughout the 2019 season, almost 400 producers shared their food through the Farms to Food Banks program supplementing millions of meals to hungry Kentuckians.

In an impact report from Feeding Kentucky, it states the program strengthens Kentucky’s agricultural economy by providing a new outlet for surplus and “Number 2 produce,” while improving access to healthy food among consumers.

Because of the program, members were able to distribute three million pounds of produce to hungry Kentuckians.

According to the report, 28 types of produce were distributed to all counties in Kentucky through the help of 497 agencies.
