Pandemic Food Benefits Work To Address Food Insecurity

In March 2020, Congress created a pandemic food benefit program called Pandemic-EBT (P-EBT) to provide food assistance to school-age children during school closures. On July 30, the Brookings Institution’s Hamilton Project reported that the P-EBT program helped 2.7–3.9 million children avoid going hungry. As the beginning of the school year nears, the report’s findings demonstrate the ongoing importance of the P-EBT program in helping families put food on the table.
